About

"In every setting, from the elevated to the everyday, there is always something waiting to be discovered"

Based in Malmö, Sweden, Annika and Ola Jovall are two pensioners who dedicate a large portion of their time to their passion for photography. A portfolio of their selected work is presented on this website.

Annika Jovall has been photographing since her teens, initially with analog cameras and now with digital ones. In 2018, her interest in photography expanded from more or less taking snapshots to creating images as a dedicated hobby photographer. This shift was sparked by the inspiration provided by the photographer Mats Ricklund during a workshop, as detailed further below.

Her primary interests lie in landscape and urban photography, with a particular focus on smaller scenes. She strives to find and reveal beauty and interest in what others typically perceive as mundane and ordinary.

Ola Jovall began his journey as a hobby photographer in the autumn of 2018, participating in a photography inspirational workshop. The event took place in Härjedalen, Sweden, and was organized by local photographer Mats Ricklund. Mats' excellence in photographing smaller landscape scenes has served as a significant source of inspiration ever since.

The process of image creation is central to Ola's work. It is a journey that begins with the inspiring and joyful time spent in a landscape, determining what to photograph. It concludes with the creative time in the studio, where the images are finalized. For Ola, photography is artistic image-making carried out in collaboration with the landscape and the elements he encounters there. Craftsmanship and method are vital components of his process, complemented by chance, which influences both what he encounters and how the landscape presents itself to him.

Another source of inspiration for both Annika and Ola is the Norwegian photographer Magnus Reneflot, whose influence is exemplified by the following citation:

”I am a treasure hunter but I don’t know where the treasure is or what it looks like.
I will find it and capture it for eternity.”
